Brandi offers these precautions when some unknown person is at your door:
- Place a "No Solicitors" sign on your door;
- You do not have to open the door but you DO want to let the person know someone is home by asking "who is it?" or "not interested, please leave"; anything that lets them know you are home. Sometimes if it is a burglar at your door, they are testing to see if someone is home.
- If you don't have a window in your door, place a "wide range" peep hole in your door so you can see who it is.
- If you do open the door - the person should have some sort of identification and may be paired with uniform, vehicle with company name, stationary with company name, etc.
- If something seems suspicious or the person is trying to force their way in, shut and lock the door and call the police right away. Non-emergency dispatch 503.629.0111 OR 911 if a person or property is in immediate danger.
- Lock and remove all valuables from your vehicle
- Lock your home and keep your garage door closed and locked when you are not outside
- Report (503-629-0111) and remove graffiti within 24 hours to help abate the problem
- Maintain a list of your valuables with serial numbers included
- Report suspicious activity to non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111
